Patane’s pump station and drainage system completed

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has completed the phased construction of the Patane North pump station and box-culvert system, with inspection and testing now underway.
In a statement, the bureau said it expects the new pump station to help mitigate flooding in the Fai Chi Kei and Lam Mau areas during heavy rainfall.
The project comprises three main components: the Patane North pump station, a 170-meter box culvert along Rua do Comandante João Belo, and a 268-meter culvert along Rua da Doca Seca, connected to the existing stormwater system on Lam Mau seaside avenue.
During storms, rainwater will be collected in the culverts and pumped to the sea, relieving pressure on drainage systems in Fai Chi Kei, Lam Mau, San Kio, and Horta e Costa districts. The pump station also intercepts sewage, improving water quality along the waterfront.
The project also added nearly 2,200 square meters of public waterfront space, featuring a fitness area, children’s interactive zone, and observation platform.
The leisure area is open to the public and connects to the existing Fai Chi Kei North Bay park. LV
