The face of the Elderly Card has been updated and renewal should roll out soon. The government is about to introduce an electronic version of the card, stressing that the e-card and the physical card will be equally valid. Current bearers of the physical card can apply for the e-version on the Social Welfare Bureau’s WeChat account, where a user manual for the e-card will also be available. New applicants for the card can apply for the e-card directly.

Firms encouraged to develop ‘Made in Macau’ brands

The Economic and Technological Development Bureau and the Industrial Association of Macau have recently co-hosted an orientation session to familiarize the latter’s members with the bureau’s enterprise upgrading incentive program. The orientation was held to encourage local industrial enterprises to upgrade themselves and develop the “Made in Macau” brand. At the session, the bureau briefed local entrepreneurs about meeting eligibility of the program, financial details, type of subsidies, application procedures, and the duties taken on by the applicants.

Financial Intelligence Office, Chinese central bank meet on money laundering

A delegation from the city’s Financial Intelligence Office (GIT) has met with officials from the Anti-money Laundering Department of the People’s Bank of China, the country’s central bank. At the meeting, the two parties exchanged experience and insights on the matter, and the Macau delegation briefed the mainland officials about local laws and regulations. The mainland officials were satisfied with Macau’s efforts in combating money laundering, while promising to offer the Special Administrative Region continuous their support and insights into the area.
