Broadway Hotel and Rocks Hotel have been designated as quarantine venues for red health code holders, authorities announced yesterday. The addition of these quarantine venues comes amid the new cases that were discovered since Monday – two of which are linked with the underground mall in Gongbei. Meanwhile, Sheraton Grand Macao has accepted its last check-in on November 21.
Restaurants, retailers continue to record drop in revenues
Revenues of restaurants & similar establishments dropped by 4.1% year-on-year in September 2022, according to data from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). All the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments registered a year-on-year fall in receipts, with Chinese Restaurants recording a 6.8% decrease. Meanwhile, sales of the interviewed retailers went down by 11.3% year-on-year in September. As regards the business expectations for October, there were 34% of the interviewed restaurants & similar establishments expecting their receipts to increase month-on-month, while 48% of the retailers forecasted a month-on-month sales growth in October.
HK, Macau police arrest 56 fraud suspects
Authorities in Macau and Hong Kong arrested 56 people for allegedly being part of a group responsible for an online fraud involving MOP7.8 million. According to the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday, the group had been operating since July 2021. Macau police arrested 10 men, one of whom is a policeman, while Hong Kong detained 46 individuals, two of them holding Macau resident identity cards. The PJ indicated that most of the fraudulent funds were transferred to the account of a key member in Hong Kong, which was then moved in a “complex” way, including the purchase of cryptocurrencies, in an attempt to launder money.
