After a great start with two wins in as many races at the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia (LSTA), Macau racer Charles Leong continues to score high points in this championship, adding another win and a second-place finish to his record in the second round, which took place in Shanghai, China.
Sharing driving duties with Irish driver Alex Denning in the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 from the SJM Theodore Racing team, the weekend did not start well for Leong. After a racing incident on the opening lap of Race 1, he had to make his way through the field from 17th place to second.
In the second race, held the following day, things went more smoothly, with Leong and Denning climbing to the top of the podium.
After the race, Leong shared his thoughts, saying, “This was definitely one of my best drives ever, and with a solid P2 while having a huge contact and coming back from P17 in Race 1, it turned out to be a great weekend overall.”
“A huge thanks to the SJM Theodore Racing Team and everyone involved for their incredible support, as we’ve now extended our championship lead. Although there were some ups and downs throughout the week, everything was manageable, and we stayed focused. Now it’s all about maintaining this momentum for the upcoming races,” Leong remarked.
Leipert Motorsport’s Ethan Brown and Jacob Riegel took the win in Race 1 on their racing debut together, with an advantage of almost 4 seconds over Leong and Denning.
Still, the results open up excellent prospects for Leong and Denning, strengthening their bid for the 2025 PRO championship title, as they now enjoy a 15-point advantage over Brown.
The LSTA continues next month when the series races in the foothills of Japan’s mighty Mount Fuji in Round Three, scheduled for June 28–29.
As in previous editions, the LSTA championship consists of six rounds, each comprising two races. The final round of the season will take place on November 6-7 in Misano, Italy, where the top-ranked drivers from the various regional championships will reunite for the Super Trofeo World Final, scheduled for November 8-9.
