Chief Executive’s visit to Portugal and Spain postponed

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai has postponed his planned visit to Portugal and Spain, the Government Information Bureau (GCS) confirmed last night.
The trip was supposed to be his first visit outside China since taking office late last year.
The announcement comes a week after the bureau announced that Sam would lead a delegation of local government officials and business sector representatives on an eight-day visit to Lisbon and Madrid.
The visit was originally scheduled for September 16 to 23, with the delegation departing Macau on September 15, the day immediately after the elections for the new term of the Legislative Assembly.
No new dates for the visit have been announced so far.
Meanwhile, Portugal’s Prime Minister Luís Montenegro will visit Macau in September as part of an official trip to China and Japan.
The announcement was made in June by Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, who ruled out his own return to the Special Administrative Region this year, citing scheduling conflicts with Portugal’s National Day celebrations in June.
