CE meets think tanks and associations to hear opinions ahead of Policy Address

The Chief Executive (CE), Sam Hou Fai, met yesterday with representatives of the expert groups and the professional sector to listen to their opinions and suggestions regarding the preparation of the Policy Address for the financial year 2026.

The meeting, held at the government headquarters, included representatives from 16 local think tanks and professional associations. They presented their views on various topics.

These topics included enhancing Macau’s position as a world tourism and leisure center, accelerating the development of key emerging industries, and strengthening regional cooperation and synergistic development.

They also covered optimizing the business environment, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to operate with better quality, and revitalizing the community economy. Other topics addressed securing resident employment, accelerating the construction of a smart city, improving urban planning and land management, expanding the urban renewal modification model, and optimizing transportation and skilled workforce systems, among other issues.

Several representatives expressed their hope that the local government will continue to invest in urban construction, further optimizing the territory’s housing environment, creating better development opportunities for residents, and steadily improving the population’s well-being.

Some of these opinions had already been presented in writing to the CE ahead of the meeting.

In response to the many opinions and suggestions expressed, Sam said that the diverse opinions and topics will help the government draft its Policy Address report for next year.

He also emphasized that despite the changes and complexities of the internal and external environment, all social sectors persist in the fine tradition of loving the country and Macau, having strongly supported the Executive in governing according to the law and in developing society.

The CE also stated that the government needs to address some existing deep social conflicts to overcome these challenges with the support of all sectors.

He stressed that the government must consider equity and sustainability when formulating policies to ensure social stability and the long-term, stable development of Macau.
