Committee greenlights plan for 39 idle plots, proposes adding commercial spaces

The Legislative Assembly (AL) Follow-up Committee for Land and Public Concessions has concluded its analysis of the government plan for 39 idle land plots awaiting definitive plans.

As is known, the government has earmarked these 39 land plots on the peninsula and islands for temporary development projects, including outdoor parking, leisure and sports areas, and public-use facilities.

At a meeting held yesterday morning, the committee finalized the report it had been working on since January, when it began evaluating the government proposal.

After the final meeting, the committee president, lawmaker Ella Lei, noted that members had generally agreed with the direction adopted by the government for the use of the idle land plots.

Still, committee members made some recommendations to the government on the matter, namely the need to strengthen land resource management, formulate temporary-use guidelines, and introduce commercial elements on smaller plots to stimulate community development.

According to Lei, of the 39 parcels mentioned, some have already been opened to public use, with the remaining parcels set to be gradually put into use starting in the second half of this year and continuing through next year.

She noted that the planned uses mainly include recreational areas, sports facilities, parking lots, environmental protection, and mixed-use development, remarking that larger plots, such as those in Nam Van Lake (A3, A4, and A9), will be used for recreational facilities and public open spaces, while larger parcels in Taipa will be developed for sports facilities.

Of the 39 parcels, 13 have been designated for temporary use as recreational areas, 15 as parking lots, three as eco-friendly fun stations, four as sports facilities, and the remaining four for mixed use, which includes a charging station for electric vehicles in Coloane.
