Cooperation | Lisbon, Bissau visits promote Lusophony trade link

A delegation from Macau, organized by the Institute for Trade and Investment Promotion (IPIM), last week took part in the “Business Opportunities Forum between China, Portugal and the MSAR,” held in Lisbon.
The meeting saw the parties hold discussions on bilateral trade between China and Portugal, business promotion sessions and exchange contact details.
IPIM further reported that the local delegation took part in a separate but related meeting between businesspeople from China and the Portuguese- speaking countries – “Guinea-Bissau in 2016” – on April 9 and 10 in the capital, Bissau.
The president of IPIM, Jackson Chang, said that Macau is gradually achieving its “Centre and Platform” goal, including establishing the city as an “Events Capital” and a “convention and exhibition center for trade and economic cooperation between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries.”
The Department Director of the China International Chamber of Commerce, Han Meiqing, said on behalf of the CCPIT that China is the largest trading partner of Portugal in Asia and that the two economies can complement each other by taking advantage of Macau to boost their links with all Portuguese-speaking countries.
IPIM also said that it has invited Portugal to be a “partner country” of MIF, a new form of institutional cooperation that aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and develop Macau’s role as a regional business service platform.
