CRIME | Police fires shots in robbery case

local police officer shot a man in his thigh after he was suspected of being involved in a robbery in Iao Hon area yesterday morning. The 31-year-old suspect from mainland China had allegedly snatched a bag from one of the four men who were having a chat in a restaurant before three of them chased him into a nearby alley.

The robber, surnamed Fu, had reportedly taken MOP100 from the bag before he fled.

The Judiciary Police confirmed shooting the man as he had pulled a blade on the police.

“He strongly resisted arrest and pointed the knife, so an officer shot him in the thigh,” the spokesman said.

The incident is the second time this year that a local police officer has fired shots.

Just last month, an on-duty police officer was assaulted on duty after firing a warning shot into the air to warn three mainland Chinese men who refused to stop smoking in a non-smoking premise.

In a viral video shared on social media, the three men were behaving aggressively when approached by a police officer, who informed them that smoking was illegal on the site under the new smoking ban, which was implemented on January 1.
