CTM and Hutchison fined over telecommunication incidents

Local telecommunications providers CTM and Hutchison were fined over network failure incidents dating back to last year.
The Bureau of Telecommunications Regulation (DSRT) revealed in a statement that CTM was fined MOP100,000 for a network failure incident back in October last year. According to DSRT, the incident was due to human error while the network was undergoing maintenance work.
Hutchison was also fined MOP128,000 for a network failure incident last October. After investigation, DSRT said that the company had failed to properly operate the Domain Name System needed for mobile data. DSRT added that the quality of the mobile data was affected due to the incident and therefore applied a MOP180,000 fine.
Another system failure incident related to Hutchinson was investigated, but DSRT concluded it was prompted by “an unpredictable breakdown.” Therefore, DSRT did not apply any sanctions.
