Forum with new delegates from Cape Verde, São Tomé

The new delegates from Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe to the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau took office on Tuesday.

According to the Support Office to the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese Language Countries, the new delegate from Cape Verde, Nuno Miguel Melo Furtado, previously served as the diplomatic advisor to the president of the National Assembly of Cape Verde.

The Sao Tomé and Príncipe delegate to the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau, Gualter Sousa Pontes da Vera Cruz, served as the advisor to the Minister of Finance, Trade and the Blue Economy of São Tomé and Príncipe.

On July 31, the former Cape Verdean delegate, Mário Vicente, after being in office since March 2011, resigned from the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macau.

São Tomé and Príncipe’s entry to the Forum Macau was approved by the other member countries in March.

This move follows the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, replacing Taiwan, which occurred on  December 20, 2016. The Forum Macau now has all eight countries with Portuguese as an official language as members. MDT/Macauhub
