A total of 1.16 million guests checked into hotels and guesthouses in November 2019, down by 2% year-on-year, according to a statement released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Guests coming from mainland China (797,000) decreased by 4.0%, while those from the Republic of Korea (42,000), Hong Kong (140,000) and Taiwan (37,000) grew by 5.1%, 24.5% and 9.6% respectively.
The average occupancy rate of guest rooms went down by 2.2 percentage points year-on-year to 91.8%. The average length of stay of guests was 1.5 nights, up by 0.1 nights year-on-year, according to the DSEC report.
There were 121 hotels and guesthouses operating at end-November 2019, an increase of five year-on-year; however, the number of available guest rooms decreased by 1.7% to 38,000 as a consequence of renovations in some hotels.
The occupancy rates for three-star hotels (94%) and five-star hotels (92.9%) dropped by 0.8 percentage points and 2.3 percentage points respectively.
Data from the Public Security Police Force shows that Macau recorded 39 million visitors in 2019, an increase of 10% compared to last year. LV
