International banking share rises

The Monetary Authority of Macao reported that international business in the local banking sector increased in the second quarter of 2025. At end-June, international assets accounted for 84.5% of total banking assets, up from 83.8% in March, while international liabilities rose to 81.3% from 80.8%. Non-local currencies dominated transactions, with the US dollar, Hong Kong dollar, and renminbi leading. Total international assets reached MOP2,086.2 billion, and liabilities totaled MOP2,007.9 billion, with Asia remaining the main counterpart region.
