Macau doctors to do training in Hong Kong

Macau doctors are scheduled to attended specialist training in Hong Kong in 2024, following the launch of new training program by the SARs.

Hong Kong Secretary for Health, Lo Chung-mau, said that the move comes as 92 Guangdong healthcare professionals arrive in Hong Kong and start working in public hospitals. The Standard reports that 100 more will arrive early next year.

The professionals from the mainland comprise 10 doctors, 70 nurses, seven Chinese medicine practitioners and five radiographers who will all work at public hospitals for different durations.

Meanwhile, Lo said the Hospital Authority has reached a consensus with the Health Bureau of Macau to launch a Macau specialist trainee program.

“The first batch of doctors from Macau is expected to come here for training in the first quarter of 2024,” he said.

According to the official, the training provides a “good opportunity for mutual learning and enhancement of clinical work standards for healthcare professionals of both places, and will help alleviate the pressure of labor shortages.”  LV
