Macau and Portugal’s second-largest city are reinforcing the need for bilateral cooperation. The Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Alexis Tam, has met with the Mayor of Porto, Rui Moreira, to exchange views on cooperation in sports, tourism and cultural affairs.
In the meeting held in Porto on July 17, Mr Tam and Mr Moreira discussed a string of activities, such as organizing “Porto Week” in Macau and “Macau Week” in Porto in 2016, to broaden cooperation between the two places.
According to a statement issued by the government, Mr Tam visited a number of World Heritage sites in Porto to gain a better understanding of the conservation of heritage. He also visited the City Council.
Prior to his visit to Portugal, Mr Tam had visited the Historic Centre of Ribeira Grande in Cape Verde, where he learnt more about the contribution of the Portuguese architect Siza Vieira during the site’s inscription on the World Heritage List in 2009. The secretary took the opportunity to meet with Mr Vieira while in Porto to exchange views on heritage conservation.
