Macau retains top spot in Chinese outbound tourism satisfaction survey

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced on Monday that Macau has been ranked first in the “2025 Top 10 Destinations for Chinese Outbound Traveler Satisfaction” for the second consecutive year, underscoring the city’s growing appeal among mainland visitors.
The China Tourism Academy, a professional research institution directly under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, released the rankings at an event held in Beijing. The annual survey evaluates destinations based on feedback from Chinese outbound travelers across multiple dimensions, including service quality, infrastructure, cultural experience, and overall value.
MGTO deputy director Cheng Wai Tong traveled to Beijing to attend the ceremony and participated in a roundtable discussion, where he shared Macau’s practical experience in enhancing visitor satisfaction and promoting high-quality tourism development. The event brought together tourism officials and industry representatives from various destinations to exchange insights on improving traveler experiences.
During the session, Cheng attributed the city’s success in retaining the top spot to its comprehensive service quality assurance system, characterized by “broad community participation, multidimensional responsiveness, and precise regulation.”
He explained that the city has successfully integrated tourism experience optimization into all aspects of urban governance, creating a seamless and welcoming environment for visitors.
According to the China Tourism Academy rankings, the “2025 Top 10 Destinations for Chinese Outbound Traveler Satisfaction” are Macau, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Argentina, Spain, Singapore, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom.
Macau scored particularly high in the categories of “leisure and entertainment” and “attractions and accommodation,” which proved decisive in securing the top ranking again this year. The region had previously claimed the number one spot in 2024.
MGTO expressed encouragement over the positive feedback from mainland visitors, noting that overall satisfaction levels reflect strong recognition of the city’s travel experience.
The office emphasized that this achievement is the result of collective efforts from all sectors of local society, including government departments, tourism operators, hospitality providers, and frontline service staff who work together to deliver high-quality experiences.
According to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), Macau received over 29 million mainland visitors last year, demonstrating the city’s enduring popularity as a preferred destination for Chinese travelers.
