The “Light Up Macao 2024” event is set to run from December 7 to February 28, 2025, starting with an opening ceremony that showcases the city’s cultural diversity and artistic expression.
Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), emphasized the collaborative spirit of this event during yesterday’s press conference.
“We are thrilled to partner with various government departments and major resort enterprises to present the ‘Symphony of Time and Space,’ a themed experience that reflects our aspirations as an international metropolis,” she stated.
The event will feature six thematic activities spread across six districts in the Macau Peninsula, Taipa and Coloane. Attendees can expect an array of artistic displays, light installations, interactive exhibits and light sculpture performances.
Among the highlights are two outstanding local works selected through an open call and three themed performances by a renowned Japanese team. The artistic contributions will come from a diverse group of creators hailing from regions including Macau, Hong Kong, mainland China, and several countries in the Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and Latin America.
For the event’s 84 days, spectators will be taken on a mesmerizing journey of light and art that transcends time and space.
In a blend of “Tourism +,” the event promises memorable nights for residents and visitors on major festive occasions, including the anniversary of the establishment of the Macau SAR, winter solstice, Christmas, new year’s eve, new year’s day, Chinese new year, Chinese lantern festival and Valentine’s day.
In addition to the artistic showcases, each district will offer exclusive souvenirs and lively activities tailored to enhance visitor experiences.
Every Saturday night during the event there will be leisure activities to amplify the festive atmosphere.
“We sincerely hope that Macau’s brand events and community activities will continue to give full play to the synergistic effect of ‘Tourism +’ cross-sector integration,” Senna Fernandes added. Nadia Shaw
