Meteorologists warn of prolonged hot spell

Macau is experiencing very hot weather as an anticyclone aloft drives temperatures up, prompting the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) to issue its yellow hot weather alert. Today’s temperature is forecast to range between 26 degrees Celcius and 32 degrees, with maximum UV levels reaching index 11.

According to local meteorologists, “very hot” conditions will continue through the weekend into next week. SMG forecasts daily temperatures between 27 degrees and 33 degrees with humidity levels from 60% to 95%.

Weather is expected to be mostly fine with occasional cloudy periods and one or two light showers, particularly at the start of next week.

Yesterday, the Hong Kong Observatory highlighted that while the region will remain generally fine, scattered showers and thunderstorms will affect inland areas due to heat-induced disturbances.

The neighboring observatory noted, “A broad trough of low pressure will bring unsettled weather to the central and northern parts of the South China Sea and the seas east of the Philippines. An area of low pressure may develop within the broad trough,” which could lead to more widespread showers over southern China in the latter part of next week.

Today and over the weekend, residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related health risks and protect themselves from high UV exposure.
