MGTO optimistic about visitor numbers over summer holidays

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) is optimistic regarding the number of visitors that Macau can receive over the summer holidays.
Without providing a concrete prediction, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, director of the MGTO, has stated that the office is optimistic, considering that Macau recorded 850,000 visitors during the first week of May, which coincided with the Golden Week Labor Day holiday.
The figure represented an increase of over 40% compared to the same period last year.
The official hinted that the MGTO is using this 40% increase in the first week of May as a reference for the summer period. The office is also hosting several activities and promotional events, including inviting a large number of digital influencers to come to Macau and stage impromptu promotional campaigns.
Last weekend, the MGTO staged a promotional event titled “Enchanting Macao,” which brought 200 digital influencers from the mainland to brand Macau as a glamorous city, spotlighted through social media.
The event aimed to boost Macau’s popularity and increase visitor interest in experiencing the city. The MGTO is said to have selected only influencers with a large follower base, collectively reaching approximately 300 million people.
Flaws highlighted in CCAC report
Commenting on the latest report from the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC), which noted several deficiencies in MGTO’s public tender procedures, Senna Fernandes stated that the office has taken note of the CCAC’s recommendations and is amending its procedures to ensure strict adherence to the law.
In the report, the CCAC noted that the MGTO had used a random system to notify individuals and entities of the results of several public tenders. The investigation stemmed from a complaint regarding a public tender for service providers at MGTO’s public information counters.
