The public parking lot at Avenida de Venceslau de Morais will officially open to the public at 10 a.m. today, marking the launch of a new trial initiative that introduces a half-hourly parking rate.
This marks the first public parking lot in the area to implement this pricing system.
According to the Transport Bureau (DSAT), the decision to introduce the half-hourly rate comes after consideration of motorists’ parking habits, the availability of parking spaces, and overall parking rates.
The chosen location, the public parking lot at Mong Son Building on Avenida de Venceslau de Morais, is expected to help better utilize public parking spaces and encourage drivers to use public car parks more efficiently.
Authorities aim to increase the turnover rate of parking spaces and enhance overall parking availability through this trial.
The new parking lot at Mong Son offers 530 spaces for light vehicles and 338 spaces for motorcycles.
There are also plans to gradually add charging stations for electric vehicles.
The lot operates without monthly pass options, and all vehicles will be charged MO3 per half hour during the day, and MOP1.5 per half hour at night. Motorcycles will be charged MOP1 per half hour during the day and MOP0.50 at night.
The DSAT said that it will monitor the effectiveness of this new pricing structure and adjust the policy as needed.
However, the opening of the parking lot may face temporary suspensions for a few spaces due to ongoing work related to the connection of social facilities at the nearby area.
“The DSAT has already coordinated with the managing company to make the necessary arrangements to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles at the site,” the bureau said.
