Senior citizens concerned about photo-less Macau Pass card

Some senior residents have raised concerns over the latest version of the Macau Pass Senior Citizen Card, which does not include a printed photo.

During a TDM radio program, concerns were raised that the lack of a photo on the card could result in unauthorized use or misuse.

In response, the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT) clarified that the decision to issue photo-free cards was made to expedite distribution during the citywide consumption boost scheme.

Due to a surge in applications, authorities opted for pre-printed cards to ensure seniors could access benefits without delay.

Officials acknowledged that many applicants had outdated records, and under normal procedures, updating personal details and submitting a new photograph would have been required before issuing a new card.

However, to streamline the process and avoid delays, the photo requirement was temporarily waived.

The government affirmed that seniors will be able to exchange their temporary cards for personalized versions with printed photos free of charge at any Macau Pass shop once the program concludes on June 1.

Authorities also assured the public that the temporary measure does not affect the card’s functionality or the consumption benefits associated with it. Staff Reporter
