New rules proposed to expand vehicle access between Macau and Hengqin

Mainland authorities are seeking public feedback on proposed revisions to regulations governing Macau vehicles entering and leaving the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, with the consultation period running until July 15. The draft rules would expand eligibility for “island driving” permits, allowing eligible companies and individuals to apply for vehicle quotas. Macau residents meeting conditions such as owning property, working in Hengqin, or being recognized as talents may apply for “off-island driving” permits, which would allow travel within Guangdong. The new rules are expected to take effect for five years.
