Pedestrian zones make May Day comeback in Taipa and Macau peninsula

Taipa Village, along with Rua dos Ervanários and Rua de Nossa Senhora do Amparo on the Macau peninsula, will once again be designated as pedestrian zones for the May Day holiday, which falls this Friday, with vehicles banned daily from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on May 1-4.

The Taipa Village pedestrian zone will stretch from the intersection of Rua de Fernão Mendes Pinto and Rua do Supico to the intersection of Rua Correia da Silva and Rua Governador Tamagnini Barbosa, while the pedestrian zone along Rua dos Ervanários and Rua de Nossa Senhora do Amparo will cover the entire length of both streets, as well as a section of Rua da Tercena near the Ruins of St. Paul’s.

As announced by authorities, while the pedestrian zone activities are intended to create a festive atmosphere in the community during the holidays, measures have also been introduced to optimize the zones.

The Taipa Old Village pedestrian zone will continue to offer a “resident shuttle service,” providing free transportation for residents with limited mobility to and from temporary bus stops at three designated locations: Rua de Fernão Mendes Pinto, Rua do Delegado, and Taipa Old Village.

Authorities also reminded the public that from May 1 to May 4, from 11 a.m. until the last bus of the day, four bus stops in Taipa Old Village will be temporarily closed, and several bus routes will be rerouted.

From May 1 to 4, between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. daily, the two pedestrian zones will offer large-scale themed photo spots, creative markets, performances, interactive game booths, and workshops. A night market will also be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the intersection of Largo do Pagode do Hong Kong and Rua de Cinco de Outubro.

Meanwhile, the Taipa Village pedestrian zone will feature a special “Macau IP Zone” showcasing merchandise from popular local cultural and creative IPs, with the Iec Long Fireworks Factory extending its operating hours until 9 p.m.
