Red Market Library offers 24-hour service on a trial basis

The Red Market Library extended its opening hours by starting to offer a 24-hour service for the readers, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) informed.
The round-the-clock operation that started last Friday (October 7) will be on trial to determine whether this meets the needs  of the users.
During the trial operation period residents can access the library by scanning MSAR Resident Identity Cards or Non-resident Worker’s Identification Cards on the self-registration system at the entrance that will be in operation daily from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.
According to the statement, the measure aims to meet the different living pace of residents in the district. Opened on July 2012 after being revamped from its initial purpose as a Post Office, the Red Market Library is said by the IC to have registered an increasingly high number of visitors which reflects the reading demands of the residents in the district.
The Library features a total of 73 seats and possesses eight computers for Internet access. It has a collection of approximately 6,800 books, 57 worldwide newspapers and 62 different magazines.
Within its stock can be found many culinary books, as well as literature, travel and leisure, medicine and health care and home economics. The library also features a 24-hour self-service book return system, a self-check machine, photocopier, desktop electronic magnifier and book sterilizers.
Library card application, loan and return service, newspapers and periodicals reading, photocopying, free broadband Internet access and searching on electronic databases are also provided.
