Su Kun resigns, cites ‘personal reasons’; CCDI probes violations

The deputy director of the Executive Committee of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone and Assistant to the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Su Kun, has unexpectedly stepped down from all his posts.

The news broke with a statement yesterday from the Office of Anton Tai, which said that he had requested to leave the posts due to undisclosed “personal reasons.”

However, according to a brief post from a WeChat page (廉洁珠海) whose name can be roughly translated as “Clean Zhuhai,” Su Kun is under investigation by the Zhuhai Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision for alleged “serious violations of discipline and law.”

According to information collected by The Times, this WeChat page is owned and managed by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI), the highest supervisory organ of the Chinese Communist Party.

It is unclear at present what accusations against Su Kun justify the CCDI investigation. Still, they are reportedly related to his role on the Executive Committee of the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.

Su has been serving on the Executive Committee of the Cooperation Zone since September 2021, with his term having been renewed at the end of March this year for another two years, starting April 1.
