Super Typhoon Fung-wong to enter 800 km range today, T1 to be hoisted

Super Typhoon Fung-wong is expected to enter the 800 km range of Macau today (Nov. 10), the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced.

When this happens, the SMG will hoist the Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 1.

The bureau added that, according to the current forecast track, after Fung-wong enters the northeastern part of the South China Sea, it will gradually turn northward, passing about 500 km to the east of Macau tomorrow (Nov. 11).

The SMG noted that, as there are still uncertainties regarding its turning position and intensity, the bureau does not rule out the possibility of hoisting other warning signals. For the time being, the bureau said it is closely monitoring the movement and development of the storm to assess its impact on Macau.

Meanwhile, a northeast monsoon arrived at the coast of Guangdong last night, which, combined with the effect of Fung-wong, will lead to strong winds in Macau today, potentially reaching Force 5 to 6 with gusts.

The minimum temperature is expected to gradually fall to around 18 degrees Celsius by Thursday (Nov. 13), in conjunction with a deterioration of air quality.

As the Times previously reported, the passing of Fung-wong can impact the racing weekend, particularly due to the rainbands it brings. In this case, the Motorcycle Grand Prix is the event that could suffer the most, as the rules state that no motorcycles will be on track under wet conditions.

Motorcycles are expected to go out on track on Thursday at 7:45 a.m. for a one-hour Free Practice session.
