Melco International Development has informed the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE) that the company’s plan to acquire a license to operate a casino in the Catalan capital, Barcelona, might be delayed.
The company has revealed that a regional election in Catalonia had not been able to produce a single majority party or ruling coalition. As such, there is uncertainty regarding the outcome of previous consultations for the casino license.
In a statement to the HKSE, Melco International Development said that the company had not been updated as to the status of the tender process.
The statement also said the delay meant that a final announcement on the tender process would be postponed until the second quarter of 2016 at the earliest, and could be delayed even further.
