Wall socket short circuit sparks fire in Border Gate building

A fire caused by a short circuit in a wall socket broke out in a Border Gate residential unit on Saturday, prompting firefighters to extinguish the blaze. About 40 residents evacuated, with one woman hospitalized for smoke inhalation and at least four others reporting feeling unwell. Road closures and severe traffic congestion followed, with sections of Rua dos Hortelãos and the Border Gate Square Underpass temporarily shut. The Fire Services Bureau (CB) urged residents to avoid overcharging, overloading power strips and using faulty electrical equipment.
