The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive (CAECE) has stated that over 300 nomination forms have been requested so far.
According to a Radio Macau report, judge Song Man Lei, president of the CAECE, added that they are currently counting the nomination forms that have been requested so far, which amounted to 354 yesterday.
According to a statement, the CAECE hasn’t yet decided on the venue for the upcoming Chief Executive election, due to be held on August 31.
The Macau East Asian Games Dome, located in Cotai, is one of the venues under consideration.
Song Man Lei recalled that, since the Electoral College will have 100 more members than in the last election, “it is necessary to make adjustments” in that venue, if the CAECE chooses the Macau East Asian Games Dome.
Questioned by reporters on missing letters on the nomination forms, judge Song Man Lei said that the content of these forms has already been corrected.
Chui Sai On’s first term officially ends on December 31. So far, he is running without any opponents. An Electoral College comprised of 400 members will be electing the new Chief Executive on August 31.
The nomination forms are requested by those intending to run for the Chief Executive’s post. Their legal representatives are also entitled to do so at the CAECE. The nomination forms are then handed in to the Electoral College members, as prospective candidates need to gather at least 66 signatures to be able to run for the CE’s post.
