The 2022 Sands China Macao International 10K, a 10-kilometer run, will be held March 20, the Times learned from the Sports Bureau (ID).
Registration for the 10K run event will begin February 12, while Fun Run registrations will start the following day (February 13). For the time being, no details on the requirements to participate have been released by the ID but following regulations of previous events, it is likely that participants must be fully vaccinated and undergo a nucleic acid test before the event.
The 10K running competition started last year and was held for the first time in Macau in April. Due to its success and popularity, the organizers decided to hold the event in a similar format this year.
Last year, runners in the 10K event started from the Macau Tower Plaza towards the Macao Science Center and back, before crossing to Taipa island where the race finished at the Macau Olympic Sports Centre Stadium.
In the Fun Run, participants take a shorter course. They start from the same point and continue directly to the finish line in Taipa via the Sai Van Bridge.
In 2021, the event gathered over 9,000 runners with most of them participating in it as a fun and recreational activity.
This will be the third sports event in 2022 following the Macao International Regatta and the World Table Tennis Champions Macao 2021 China Stars held in January.
While the Macau annual calendar of sports events has not been finalized, ID’s president, Pun Weng Kun, advanced on a previous occasion that at least four more sports events were being planned.
Such events include the Dragon Boat Races (in June), the Grand Prix (in November), the International Marathon (in December), and at least one more “Basketball event,” which Pun did not wish to disclose in detail at this point.
