Tourism | Visitor arrivals up 9.2pct in October

Visitor arrivals to Macau totaled 2,637,106 for October 2015, signaling a decrease of 0.6 percent year-on-
year, but an increase of 9.2 percent from the previous month, according to information released by the Statistics and Census Service.
The number of same-day tourists to the MSAR totaled 1,414,348, down by 3.8 percent year-on-
year, while overnight visitors rose by 3.3 percent to 1,222,758. The average length of stay increased by 0.1 days year-on-year to 1.1 days, while the average stay of same-day visitors remained unchanged at 0.2 days. Overnight tourists on average stayed 0.2 days longer, bringing the average to 2.2 days.
The number of visitors from mainland China lessened by 0.4 percent year-
on-year to 1,817,212.  The majority of these visitors came from the provinces of Guangdong (780,784), Fujian (83,083), and Hunan (71,581).
Meanwhile, visitors from Japan (22,188), the Philippines (22,037) and Taiwan (83,462) increased by 1.4 percent, 4.2 percent and 5.6 percent respectively year-on-
year, while those from Hong Kong (504,981) and the Republic of Korea (42,680) declined by 0.7 percent and 5.4 percent.
Analyzed by mode of transport, visitor arrivals by land dropped marginally to 0.6 percent year-
on-year to 1,506,687.  Arrivals by sea plummeted 0.4 percent to 952,526. The number of visitors by air also declined; falling 2.1 percent year-on-year to 177,893.
