Independent media outlet All About Macau has announced it will cease its print publication following its October issue, marking the end of a 15-year journey, citing dwindling resources, mounting pressure, and pending legal cases against its journalists.
The final issue, the outlet said yesterday, will be a commemorative edition “to thank readers for their support and to look back on the issues we have covered over the years.”
“The team feels unable to maintain reporting quality and therefore has made this difficult decision with deep regret,” the publication stated.
According to All About Macau, since October 2024, its reporters have faced restrictions from official events.
In April, they were denied access to the Legislative Assembly, and three journalists now face potential criminal prosecution, the outlet said.
According to the statement, the Government Information Bureau later informed the publication that its registration had been revoked under the Press Law, stating it “no longer meets the legal requirements to operate.”
Operating mainly on small ads, subscriptions, and donations, the team said financial strain and legal uncertainty have made it impossible to maintain reporting quality. “We can no longer sustain operations under such conditions,” it said.
Founded in 2010, All About Macau has been covering local issues, culture, and civic affairs. The team said it remains proud of its commitment to “justice, pluralism, and responsible journalism” throughout its years of operation.
“Ceasing print publication marks the end of one phase,” the statement read. “We urge readers to continue defending civil society and the values of free expression.”
Also, the All About Macau website (aamacau.com) and its related social media platforms – including news, feature reports, and opinion columns – will suspend updates starting December 20.
