Animal Farm | Does anyone understand?

1. The non-renewal of contracts for two lawyers of the Legislative Assembly is, if nothing else, at least strange. First, because they are two well-known legal professionals, both widely recognized by the legal fraternity. Secondly, there is nothing known to indicate any doubt about their professional honesty. Finally, it is absurd to invoke a potential restructuring of the legal framework to justify the non-renewal of the two most experienced lawmakers of the Legislative Assembly who could prepare new generations for future challenges.

This is, I repeat, at the very least, strange when the Assembly will demand even more quality in the very near future, with new, more complex laws shimmering on the horizon and the tender for the gaming licenses to descend soon.

We are still in the second system, but sometimes I have the impression that we are already in the first and a half system, with less than half of this 50-year showdown!

The rest will eventually come as people persist in renouncing their authenticity.

China will not gain anything from it. On the contrary. And, of course, Macau loses much more, if it marches quickly towards a de-characterization!

Patriots, we all should be, but this is something else!

2. I have read for a couple of days now in two local newspapers, including the Macau Daily Times, about an insinuation in the Chinese press regarding the Chief Executive’s wife’s intervention in the Canidrome issue, apparently due to the fact that she may have some relationship with Anima. It’s the silly season. There is no fresh news or imagination.

Anima and this matter with Mrs. Winnie Chui, I personally never addressed. Nor would it be in good form or taste. I have already said this to the written press itself.

Anima has long been calling for greater involvement in the greyhound issue, and the fact that it has been invited to take an active part in the adoption process is due only to its proven ability to have options that nobody else has.

3. When I wrote this piece, late yesterday morning, data on inflation in July were not yet available. I recall what I wrote in July 2018: “In July, the inflation rate is expected to be between 2.32 and 2.34 percent! Even if I miss a hundredth of a point, it was always going to be 2.3 percentage points!” Or, did I? I remember that in June the official inflation rate was 2.13 percentage points!

4. The recent disclosure of losses of semi-public or public companies and the non-existence of standards that compel them to accountability does not entertain me, being only a cause to cry. First, because they do not necessarily have to make a profit, and secondly because it is one thing is to makes losses and another to be managed financially in the best way with properly organized accounts.

It seems we have people who do not understand about these matters. Maybe they are just “innocent” or maybe sufficiently incompetent!
