Sam Hou Fai meets Guinea-Bissau President to strengthen cooperation

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai met with Guinea-Bissau President Umaro Sissoco Embaló yesterday to discuss ways to strengthen Macau’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and to promote economic and trade cooperation between Macau and Guinea-Bissau.

During the meeting at the Government Headquarters. Sam highlighted the city’s implementation of the ‘One country, two systems’ principle, noting its impact on political, economic, and social development.

He also referred to the region’s position as a cultural exchange hub and tourism center in the Asia-Pacific region.

The discussion covered the strategic partnership between China and Guinea-Bissau, established last year, and Macau’s role in hosting the 6th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Forum Macao).

According to a statement released by the Government Information Bureau, Sam outlined Macau’s commitment to supporting Guinea-Bissau through its “One Centre, One Platform, One Base” framework, including efforts to facilitate investment, and cooperation in healthcare, education, and youth exchanges.
