The Chief Executive, Chui Sai On, was in Hainan for yesterday’s opening ceremony of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018, where President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech.

During his visit to Hainan Province, Chui discussed with Guangzhou and Hainan officials potential ways to advance cooperation on tourism and youth entrepreneurship.

On Monday, the CE met with the Secretary of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee, Liu Cigui, and the Governor of Hainan Province, Shen Xiaoming. Later, he held a meeting with deputy secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Committee and Secretary of Guangzhou CPC Municipal Committee, Ren Xuefeng.

In discussions with the CPC Hainan Secretary, Chui said that he saw great potential for Hainan and Macau to cooperate on tourism, and in the way that the development of Hainan – as a holiday island attracting international tourists – complemented Macau’s position as “a world center of tourism and leisure.”

In a separate meeting with the CPC Guangzhou Secretary, the CE stressed that Guangzhou and Macau have been developing closer ties, adding that Macau’s role as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese- speaking countries would create fresh opportunities for young people from each region.

According to a statement, Chui also said that he looked forward to leading a delegation to Guangzhou to gain a better understanding of its policies for youth entrepreneurship, and to assist Guangzhou in sending delegations to visit Portuguese-speaking countries.
