CE reaffirms support for Macanese community development

Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting the Macanese community during a reception earlier this week. He highlighted their vital contributions across various sectors, including education, social services, and culture.

In his address, Sam underscored the importance of the Macanese community in enhancing Macau’s position as a bridge between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. He stated that the community’s participation is essential for the city’s ongoing development, particularly as it navigates economic diversification and social inclusion.

“Today’s Macau enjoys social stability and sound economic momentum,” Sam said, attributing this progress to the efforts and contributions of the local community. He recognized the Macanese community’s integral role in fostering a multicultural society where residents can thrive.

The Chief Executive also referenced President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Macau, during which the president acknowledged the community’s contributions to the region’s prosperity. Sam reiterated Xi’s call for continued collaborative efforts to elevate Macau’s development.

Macau has seen a robust economic recovery, with celebratory events marking its achievements over recent years. Notably, over 1,000 members of the Macanese diaspora returned for the 8th Macanese Community Gathering in December, showcasing the community’s unique attributes.

Looking ahead, Sam outlined the sixth-term government’s administrative philosophy of “Striving Together, Upholding Integrity and Innovation.” He emphasized the need for a collective approach to realize visions for a “Law-based Macau,” a “Vibrant Macau,” a “Cultural Macau,” and a “Blissful Macau.”

The Chief Executive expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Macanese community to safeguard and enhance Macau’s legacy, ensuring a prosperous future for generations to come. Victoria Chan
