Over the past weekend, the Fai Chi Kei district has seen three fires, with two being investigated as arson, the security forces have announced.
Two of the fires occurred on March 17, while the third occurred yesterday.
At around 3 a.m. on March 17, plastic bags outside a pub on Avenida Marginal do Lam Mau were found on fire. The fire bureau referred the case to the Judiciary Police (PJ) due to its suspicious criminal nature.
The plastic bags, according to the PJ, were wrapped around some power boxes outside the pub, but fire fighters found no sign of the power boxes short-circuiting.
In another case at about 5 p.m. on the same day, explosions and a consequent fire affected power boxes on the ground floor of a residential building in Fai Chi Kei.
About a dozen residents evacuated themselves to the ground floor, while others were forced to stay home or relocate to the rooftop. Two residents were sent to the hospital after inhaling smoke.
Traffic was affected due to road closures.
The third case, which has been categorized as arson, occurred around noon yesterday. A courier pick-up locker on Rua da Ribeira do Patane caught fire.
The fire had already been extinguished by the time fire fighters’ arrived, but the fire fighters found evidence of a locker space damaged by smoke and fire, which led them to suspect that the case had a criminal nature.
The locker owner reported a repair cost of MOP2,000. AL
