First two fireworks shows set for tomorrow

The first two performances of the 33rd Macau International Fireworks Display Contest (CIFAM), featuring the teams from Australia and South Africa, will take place tomorrow.

The Australian pyrotechnic team will host the first fireworks display of the evening, starting at 9 p.m. on the waterfront in front of the Macau Tower. The South African team will perform at 9:40 p.m.

Concurrently with the main event, the Fireworks Festival, held on the riverside promenade by the Macau Science Center, will occur on each fireworks performance day.

This festival features food, entertainment, and games from 5:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.
The 33rd CIFAM will take place from September 6 to October 6. It will include pyrotechnic displays by companies representing 10 countries.

The five-night program, featuring 10 shows, aims to enrich Macau’s nightlife while promoting the local economy.

Dancing Fireworks Company from China won CIFAM last year, followed by Pyro-Klass Fireworks Company from Russia in second place, and Marutamaya Ogatsu Fireworks Co., Ltd. from Japan in third.

Australia x South Africa

The first show features the Australian company Skylighter Fireworks, which participated in the 2014 edition of CIFAM. They return this year with a performance titled “Great Southern Land,” which will showcase and celebrate Australia’s landscape, cultural richness, and spirit of solidarity.South Africa’s company, Fireworks for Africa, which participated in CIFAM in 2013 and 2019, will bring the second fireworks display.

This time, the company is presenting a show titled “Serengeti,” which will showcase Africa’s natural beauty through fireworks and music.

The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), organizer of the event, recommends the public choose among six prime viewing spots for the fireworks and photos, including Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen from the Kun Iam Ecumenical Centre to the Kun Iam Statue Waterfront Leisure Area, the riverside promenade by the Macau Science Center, Avenida de Sagres (next to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Macau), Anim’Arte Nam Van, the lakefront path (next to the YOHO Treasure Island Hotel), and Avenida do Oceano in Taipa.

Traffic measures will be enforced

During the CIFAM exhibitions, temporary traffic control measures will be implemented on surrounding streets, including metered parking areas for cars and motorcycles on Rua da Torre de Macau, Praça do Lago Sai Van, and Rua do Lago Sai Van, as well as on Avenida Panorâmica do Lago Sai Van, Rua Dr. Lourenço Pereira Marques, Avenida do Oceano, and Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano in Taipa near Jardins do Oceano. The public is asked to observe all relevant restrictions.
