Gov’t plans legislation to ban possession of e-cigarettes

Authorities have revealed plans to draft legislation banning the possession of e-cigarettes. Lam Chong, director of the Disease Control Center of the Health Bureau (SSM), noted that while a ban on the manufacture, sale, and import/export of e-cigarettes is being considered, members of the public can still purchase them in neighboring regions. As a result, the bureau is exploring a comprehensive ban on possession, with penalties based on existing tobacco control laws. Organizations like the Smoking Abstention and Good Health Association and Bosco Youth Service Network support the move, highlighting a rise in e-cigarette use among students, now surpassing traditional cigarette use.
