Macau residents lost MOP300 million to telecom scams in 2025, a 32% increase from 2024, authorities said last week as they met to discuss joint anti-fraud measures. While phone- and internet-based cases fell to 810, scammers increasingly used contactless technologies. Measures include caller ID alerts, blocking fraudulent calls and websites, real-name registration for prepaid SIMs, and mobile banking authorization requirements to prevent unauthorized online transactions.
