Gov’t retrieves land plot to build public outdoor leisure area

The local authorities have held an interdepartmental action to retrieve a land plot located at Rampa dos Cavaleiros, across from Saint Paul School in the Mong Ha area.

According to the Land and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU), the plot, with an area of approximately 700 square meters (7,535 square feet), will be used to create a green area and public open space.

This is another piece of land, part of the previously marked 39 plots, that the government has listed to be temporarily used as public spaces, leisure areas, and parking lots, while there is no final plan for the usage, or the plots are too small to be part of major development projects in the old neighborhoods.

The DSSCU also noted that, in addition to turning the area into a public space, the sidewalks will be widened to facilitate pedestrian traffic.

At the time of reclamation, the plot contained an illegal construction with metal supports and awnings, enclosed by metal fencing, concrete walls, and netting, where containers and mechanical equipment had been stored.

The plot was retrieved after authorities notified the occupants to vacate the plot and deliver it to the government by a deadline that was not met, leading the government to enforce an eviction process to regain possession of the plot.
As in previous circumstances, the action includes the participation of security forces and the Fire Services Bureau.

Just a week ago, DSSCU also retrieved another land parcel, this time with almost 1,700 square meters (18,300 square feet) at Rua de Entre-Campos, which will be used as a temporary parking lot. Authorities noted that they will continue to enforce similar operations to retrieve and put to use all 39 designated land plots.
