Bona Film Group acknowledges debt to Wynn

The Chinese production company Bona Film Group’s chair, Yu Dong, has been reported to owe Wynn Macau MOP4.84 million after media scrutiny.

Sina Corp., a Chinese online media company that also controls algorithms on Weibo, recently reported that it launched an internal investigation on the film group to gather feedback from the public and investors once it concludes.

In the report, a staff member of the film group stated that the company will continue operations, remaining unaffected even if the allegations prove true, emphasizing that the matter is a “personal matter” for the founder.

The film group, known for its “patriotic mainstream” films, has produced both American and Chinese movies, including the most popular titles: Battle at Lake Changjin (2021), Operation Red Sea (2018), and The Taking of Tiger Mountain (2014).

Earlier this month, the company issued a statement reporting a loss to shareholders between RMB1.26 billion and RMB1.47 billion, a significant increase from the RMB866.9 million loss recorded a year earlier.

Bona attributed the downturn to declining box office revenues, noting that individual film titles suffered the heaviest losses.

The company added that this situation was compounded by an insufficient number of films and series produced last year. Ricaela Diputado
