Hengqin Port’s new joint inspection building marked its fifth anniversary yesterday, reporting more than 75.64 million passenger crossings and roughly nine million vehicle passages since its opening.
The facility has seen annual growth rates surpassing 40% for passengers and 33% for vehicles, according to data from the Public Security Police (PSP).
The PSP emphasized that the port has become a key infrastructure supporting high-quality connectivity and integration between Hengqin and Macau.
Over the past five years, Hengqin Port has continuously upgraded both hardware and services.
Key developments include a “joint one-stop” vehicle lane system, a first-of-its-kind cooperative clearance hall for accompanying passengers, connections to the University of Macau, and the Macau Light Rail extension to Hengqin Port.
Daily averages have also surged. From January 1 to August 16 this year, daily passenger flow reached 76,946, nearly 1.88 times the 2019 pre-opening level.
Daily vehicle flow averaged 8,840, including 5,810 single-plate vehicles, marking significant growth from 2019. Peak records were set on May 2 with 128,423 passengers and July 19 with 10,518 vehicles. Macau residents accounted for 27.1% of crossings, with tourists, non-local students, and migrant workers making up 40%, 16.1%, and 16.2%, respectively.
Efficiency has improved further through technological upgrades. Non-passenger vehicles using self-service channels now take an average of 100 seconds to clear, compared with longer times under the traditional dual-inspection model.
The port’s self-service channels now accommodate most Macau, Mainland, and Taiwan residents, as well as eligible foreign nationals. Times Reporter
