Hengqin Port slated for further upgrades to increase convenience

The Hengqin Port is set to undergo further upgrades in the near future, aiming to improve the speed and ease of border crossings between Macau and Hengqin, the Public Security Police Force (PSP) said.

In its future work plans to improve services at the port, the force noted that, in an effort to “continuously improve clearance efficiency at the Hengqin Port, the PSP will collaborate with relevant port authorities to advance port construction efforts in line with the three core objectives of ‘expanding capacity, increasing speed, and enhancing convenience.’”

The idea is to facilitate the flow of people in the region in support of the integrated development of Macau and Hengqin.

To achieve this goal, the PSP noted four main upcoming projects, starting with the “exploration of a ‘joint one-stop’ lane with ‘facial recognition + iris recognition’ intelligent upgrades to enable contactless clearance for drivers without leaving their vehicles.”

Improvements are also expected through the “construction of an intelligent vehicle inspection system to reduce the number of times cross-border vehicles must stop for inspection and shorten waiting times.”

With the same goal in mind, the PSP said authorities on both sides are “studying ways to further optimize the inspection system for cross-border student shuttle buses to improve clearance efficiency.”

Last but not least, further advancements are also expected in connection with the “construction of the new access route to the University of Macau, including the main construction project, research on innovative clearance models, and the deployment of border control information systems.”

Celebrating six years since it first opened on Tuesday, the port has been cited as an example of improving clearance efficiency through “technology-driven solutions” and implementing “people-centered” initiatives to create convenience.
