Typhoon Wipha

IAM calls on residents to respect signage of closed parks, trails

The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has issued a notice asking the public to respect the signage indicating the temporary closure of several public facilities.

According to the bureau, Typhoon Wipha’s passing on Sunday affected several trails, parks, and gardens. Some of these facilities have been temporarily closed for cleaning and repairs.

The bureau said it is working on the full or at least partial reopening of some of these facilities, namely the city parks, to the public.

Some trails might remain closed longer due to the many fallen trees that need removal.
The Garden of Commander Ho Yin, the Garden of the Arts in NAPE, and the Flora Garden were among the parks and gardens affected.

IAM claimed that in some of these parks, people disrespected the signage and were seen performing physical exercises in areas considered unsafe.

In a separate statement, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said it would follow up on the Tin Hau Temple case.

Located at Rua dos Pescadores, the temple, which is listed as a classified immovable property, was reportedly damaged by a fallen tree during Wipha’s passing.
Initially, the temple was installed in a natural cave, serving as a place for the worship of the Goddess Tin Hau.

According to an inscription at the site, the area was converted into a temple in 1865 and later restored in 1987.
