Lawmaker calls for the expansion of Macau’s international ‘friends circle’

Lawmaker Cheung Kin Chung is calling on Macau to expand its relations with foreign countries and regions, following the expectations shared by Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office of the Central Committee and the State Council.
In a spoken inquiry delivered at the Legislative Assembly earlier this week, Cheung highlighted Xia’s expectations, noting that Macau’s “openness and cooperation with the whole world remain a historical trend.”
At the same time, the lawmaker noted that the the mutual benefits that can arise from such relationships continue to be of interest to local people.
“Therefore, we should continue to broaden our openness to the outside world and embrace the world, expand the international ‘friends circle,’ and support Macau to play its important role as a bridge in the opening up of the country [China] to the outside world, and make more efforts to integrate and serve for the sake of a good national situation,” he said.
