Merchandise trade sees 4.3% decline in first half

The merchandise trade totalled MOP67.20 billion in the first half of 2025, down 4.3% year-on-year, according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). Exports rose slightly by 0.3% to MOP6.63 billion, driven by a 0.6% increase in re-exports, while domestic exports fell 1.9%. Imports dropped 4.8% to MOP60.57 billion, narrowing the trade deficit to MOP53.95 billion. Exports to Hong Kong grew 8.9%, but shipments to the Chinese mainland and other regions declined. In June, exports fell 10.5% to MOP953 million, and imports decreased 0.6% to MOP9.95 billion, with a trade deficit of MOP9.00 billion.
