New car park to open next week, offering 145 parking spots

A new outdoor car park facility is set to offer 145 additional parking spaces on an idle land plot located between Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes and Rua de Xiamen, across from Macao Polytechnic University.
According to the Transport Bureau (DSAT), the facility will open in phases, with the first phase beginning on August 5 (Wednesday) at 10 a.m., offering 42 private light vehicle parking spots.
In the second phase, located on Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes, 103 motorcycle parking spots will be added.
The land plot is one of the idle plots in Macau’s land reserves for which the government does not yet have a final development plan and, according to previous public calls, will be put to temporary public use.
Entry to and exit from both parking areas will be via Rua de Luís Gonzaga Gomes.
According to DSAT, the first phase’s opening will alleviate the need for street parking in the area.
As with other facilities of this kind, the parking lot operates under a “first 15 minutes free” and “billed every half hour” model, using an electronic payment system that supports Mpark contactless payment, the Macau Pass card, MPay, and UnionPay’s QuickPass.
By default, the parking facility accepts only electronic payments, with cash payments permitted only in the event of a system malfunction.
DSAT said it is monitoring the operational status of the parking lot and the progress of the motorcycle parking area, which will be made available to the public after the completion of the ongoing construction work.
The parking fee is MOP3 per hour during the daytime and MOP1.50 per hour during nighttime for cars, and MOP1 and MOP0.50 per hour for motorcycles.
