Two young women lost a combined MOP1.52 million in separate scams by fraudsters posing as police officers, the Judiciary Police recently reported. In early September, a Macau resident received a call from a fake “Immigration Officer from Pac On,” the Taipa Ferry Terminal checkpoint, claiming her phone number had been used to send fraudulent texts in Yunnan. She transferred RMB 925,000 in two payments and continued reporting her whereabouts until family alerted her to the scam. In a separate case in November, a non-resident woman fell victim by depositing MOP 595,000 across six transactions to a scammer alleging text fraud. Both realized the cons after contact ceased.
