Sands China assembles 5,000 food kits for vulnerable groups

For the fifth consecutive year, Sands China hosted the “Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build” for the city’s vulnerable groups at The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo, assembling 5,000 food kits yesterday.

Nearly 450 participants, including representatives from social service organizations, Sands Cares Ambassadors, and management executives from parent company Las Vegas Sands Corp., gathered to assemble the food kits for distribution through Caritas Macau. This year’s event set new records for both participation and food kit production.

Patrick Dumont, chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp., joined the effort alongside his daughter, emphasizing the family-oriented nature of community service. “Charity and community work is about family. It’s about helping the families in our community, and it’s a family effort,” Dumont said.

The food kits weigh a total of 30 tons and contain 11 food items sourced from local SMEs, including rice, cooking oil, egg noodles, biscuits, and soup packs from Tung Sin Tong Charitable Society.

Each kit also includes five healthy recipe cards developed by Caritas Macau and Sands China’s culinary team, with professional guidance from Health Bureau nutritionists.

The initiative supports the government’s “Healthy Community” initiative and the “Healthy Macau Blueprint.”

Pun Chi Meng, secretary general of Caritas Macau, expressed gratitude for Sands China’s ongoing support.

“This caring initiative represents not only material support but also a heartfelt expression of the community’s care for vulnerable groups,” she said.

The food kits will benefit more than 30 Caritas service units, reaching the elderly, rehabilitation service users, and low-income families across districts including Fai Chi Kei, Praia do Manduco, Iao Hon, Ilha Verde, and Coloane.

“Looking ahead, we remain steadfast in supporting Macau’s future. We will continue to work hand in hand with all sectors of society to help Macau build a happier, more vibrant, and more diversified city,” Dumont added.
